Decompression walks: Why they're important

For me and my dogs, nothing beats a walk in nature. On a long line or off leash, allowing your dog to move their body as they wish is incredibly important for them. Domestic life is a life of restriction so it's important we give our dogs the opportunity to express natural behaviours like sniffing, exploring, foraging, digging, chewing - all the things that make a dog happy!

This is called enrichment and it is the important piece of the behaviour wellness puzzle! For almost all my clients (with exceptions for highly anxious dogs), I will recommend finding a quiet nature track for letting their dog sniff and explore without any major triggers present.

My young rescue greyhound Mozart is learning how to build his confidence in unfamiliar environments and bush walks have been one of the best things for him. And he comes home feeling very happy and relaxed! My 14 year old Labradoodle Nina loves these walks and they're great for keeping up her fitness in her twilight years.

Do you struggle with taking your dog on walks? Book an online or private behavioural consult with me today and let's work on building confidence and a happier healthier dog!
